The Visioneers DVD Club is dedicated to providing family-friendly (read: no sex or violence) Christian faith-based DVD entertainment to your door, so if you want decent, family entertainment and are perhaps worried about your children viewing unsuitable material, the Visioneers are the people for you; they cite Psalm 101:3 (New Living Translation) – "I will refuse to look at anything vile or vulgar," – as their mission statement, so you know that these guys are committed to providing clean, smut-free entertainment.
As we mentioned above, Visioneers offer subscribers a range of rental packages designed to cater for Christian audiences in practically every capacity. Customers have the choice of either signing up for flexible pay-per-month packages, which mean that you are not obligated to sign up anything longer than you have to, but those who want to sign up for a 6 month or 12 month subscription are free to do so.
Of the single monthly packages, there are six different types available, allowing customers to keep between 1 and 4 DVDs at home at any one time – although curiously, the 4 DVDs at once package is cheaper (£11.99 a month ) than the 3 DVD equivalent (£13.99 a month). All of the single monthly deals allow you unlimited rentals every month, with the exception of the Taster Rental plan, which is a Limited 1 at a time/2 DVDs per month plan, which is charged at £5.99 a month. A feature unique to the Visioneers DVD Club is their single month School/Youth Group rental plan – this one off package allows Sunday School groups and summer events organisers to rent up to 3 titles a month.
The three 6 months subscription deals, Basic Saver, Silver Saver and Gold Saver, allow you to keep up to 1, 2, and 3 DVDs respectively at any one time. With the 6 month deals, you pay a little less each month than you would with the single month packages, but you are then committed to seeing the contract through to the end. The same applies for the year-long Basic Annual Rental Plan, which gives you unlimited rentals and allows you to keep up to 2 DVDs at home at any one time.
You can easily switch packages at the end of each subscription, so you could in theory sign up for a single monthly package, then switch to 6 months at the end of that, then sign up for an annual package.
The search facility tools on the site are clearly laid out and are easy to use, allowing you to perform the most basic searches (typing in actor, director and DVD titles into the search engine) and then filter search results as you please – the Visioneers site even allows you to filter results by distributor (20th Century Fox, BBC, Hallmark Entertainment etc), a feature we've not seen other providers sites. DVD titles are also grouped into genres as well, allowing you to refine searches this way; as well as the typical Action, Comedy and Childrens options, there are also Christian-specific genre categories including Christmas Films, Missions, Sermons and Prophecy/End Times.
Another feature unique to the Visioneers DVD Club is the ability for subscribers to opt to donate 10% of their subscription to one of eight Christian charities of their choice; these include Christian Aid, Christian Deaf Link UK, the Dove Foundation, Faithworks, Gospel for Asia, Mercy Ships, Tear Fund, and Youth with a Mission (YWAM). This is not compulsory, but instead an interesting and innovative feature allowing subscribers to contribute to a cause whilst enjoying DVD entertainment in the home.
