the-hunger-games-catching-fire-dvd-cover-14The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the sequel to the successful first film The Hunger Games. The film adaptations have been inspired by The Hunger Games book trilogy.

Six months after Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the 74th Hunger Games, they carry on their lives in District 12 in peace. However, just before the duo are expected to do a victory tour of the country, President Coriolanus Snow visits Katniss and warns her that a rebellion has broken out in the other districts, inspired by their win. As a result, Katniss and Peeta need to express the reasons for their actions, in an attempt to keep the peace.

If you’ve read the book, you can pretty much guess what will happen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire film. As with the first edition, we were very relieved to find that the films stays true to the books, which will please the fans of the trilogy.

Despite the whole thing being incredibly long to sit through, you’re never short of a new drama appearing out of nowhere to keep you from nodding off in your chair.

5014437190635Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones plays on many of our traditional fears and old supernatural myths.

In Oxnard, California, Jesse has just graduated high school and lives with his father and grandmother in a multi-storey apartment complex. Living in the same building are his friends Hector and Marisol, as well as a strange and mysterious woman called Anna.

Jesse, Hector and Marisol become intrigued by Anna’s apartment and recklessly enter without permission. Since venturing into Anna’s home, strange things occur and it soon becomes apparent that larger forces are taking over Jesse.

If you’ve seen the first four Paranormal Activity films, you’re most likely to be persuaded to watch Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Firstly, we have to admit that we jumped out of our skins and advise you to approach this film with caution, especially if you have heart problems.

Going back to the beginning, Paranormal Activity was a massive box office hit in the UK, with some pretty clever, yet simple, effects. On its first release, rumours speculated whether it was real footage (it wasn’t). Following its unexpected success, Paranormal Activity 2, 3 and 4 were born, sparking further demand for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.

9a47a59700a0e927cd773bf6d10c509b12 Years a Slave is an award-winning emotional roller coaster, which sees a free man become a slave in the deep south of the United States.

Set in 1841 and living in New York with his wife and two children, making a living as a violist, Solomon Northup thinks he is about to play an out of town gig, only to be drugged and sold into slavery. Through bravery and co-operation, Solomon fights for survival but that doesn’t always get him in the good books of his master. After meeting a Canadian by chance, Solomon’s chances of reuniting with his family hang in the balance.

After bagging numerous awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards, you may be curious as to why this film has become a massive hit.

Firstly, the film touches on history that some people try to avoid, because of how sensitive the subject matter is. However, Director Steve McQueen took on the challenge to highlight the past’s most horrendous history and has turned it into a masterpiece.

12 Years a Slave will tug at even the tightest of heart strings, with some scenes proving very difficult to watch.
