Heroes Season 1 Boxset

With the second season of the hit sci-fi serial Heroes due to touch down on BBC2 anytime soon, everything Heroes-related has been flying off the shelves like hotcakes of late.

According to our sources, the Season 1 box set has been one of the most requested items on customers wish lists, as subscribers have been keen to take advantage of the fact that multi-disc box sets (sensibly) only count as one order, and those on unlimited plans can keep hold of an order for as long as they want.

This has given viewers ample time to get their head round the labyrinthine plot twists and turns that are thankfully more in the vein of 24 than they are of, say Lost. The series, as pretty much everyone knows by now, follows a group of seemingly normal people from all walks of life who suddenly discover that they are imbued with a number of extraordinary powers; such as the ability to fly, walk through walls, turn invisible, read people’s thoughts and indulge in a bit of the old Jedi Mind Trick action. The last one is my favourite, and here’s how I’d make use of it:

“Two pints of Summer Lightning, please,”

“That’ll be £3.90 please mate.”

“But I’ve already paid for these.”

“[absently] Yes, you’ve already paid for these… “

As the series goes on, it turns out that the protagonists have more in common than just extra sensory abilities, and it is revealed that they are inextricably linked to the shadowy, nameless ‘Company’ which, quite literally, has its fingers in several pies.

One of the best things about sitting through an entire season on DVD is that you don’t get hung up on cliffhangers as badly, as the next episode is just the touch of a button away…

This also means that a more addictive mood can take hold, something which manifests in minor irritation when you get to the end of a single disc, and full blown withdrawal when you finally reach the end of the series, left with yet more unanswered questions, and no way to sate your curiosity.

Thankfully, with Season 2 touching down tomorrow, with repeats almost bound to be doing the rounds over on BBC3, there’s never been a better time to immerse yourself in the lives of the Heroes.

Season 2 looks pretty good so far; interesting to see how the other characters will pick up the pieces… don’t want to ruin everything for those who’ve not seen it yet!

All I’ll say is that the emo boy in Claire’s new school is annoying.
